About Eruera & Marama Maxted
Originally from the cold depths of the South Island, both Eruera and Marama grew up in Blenheim. Eruera and his family attended Blenheim Elim. Eruera and Marama meet in their late teens through Eruera’s sisters who played netball and volleyball in the same teams as Marama. During their University years, Eruera in Dunedin and Marama in Christchurch, after many trips to and from Dunedin to Christchurch, Eruera and Marama married in 1995. On completion of University, the Maxted’s were drawn to the embrace of the winterless north, Whangarei, Northland. Eruera, as a newly qualified dietitian and Marama as a new grad primary school teacher began a 2 year stint that became almost 20 years of living in the North. During their time in Whangarei they were both involved in the community, in sport and many areas of church ministry at Elim, being a part of leadership, worship teams, lifegroups and serving teams. Over these years many leaders encouraged Eruera and Marama that ‘one day they would lead their own church, but it would take several years before that came to fruition.
After taking the helm of Rotorua Elim, in February 2017, Eruera and Marama have very much settled and found an absolute love for Rotorua, the people, the town and the culture, that is Rotorua. Eruera and Marama have three children Oranga (their youngest son), Te Rewa (daughter) and Hone (son in-law).
Eruera and Marama have a heart to reach the PEOPLE of Rotorua and beyond with the life transforming message of Jesus.
When the call of Rotorua came towards the end of 2016, Eruera and Marama were suddenly faced with a major turning point in their life, well settled in Whangarei. But it wasn’t till the National Elim conference in Auckland in October 2016 when one of the Elim National Leadership team encouraged them that they would preach and minister to people in a much greater leadership capacity, they felt again the ‘Green light’ to take the step and make the shift to the ‘Sulphur city’ and cultural capital.
Rotorua Elim is a church with people from many different ethnicities and parts of the globe. Eruera and Marama feel very much called to seeing people of all nations activated by God into all that God has for them.
